THE DUSTBOWL REVIVAL - THAT OLD DUSTBOWL

DJ MUKTA

INTRODUCING MUKTA of KXLU 88.9 FM LOS ANGELES:

Tune in every Wednesday morning from 6-9AM on the airwaves of 88.9 FM for Mornings with Mukta, also known as THE MUKTA SHOW.  Here is a link to her DJ playlists/blog.

She will be DJ-ing at the Mojo Stone Record Release Party next week at The Bootleg.

some bands she is really into right now:

Black Sea - A three piece surf rock dream pop group from Huntington Beach that plays music that’s kind of depressing but totally relatable, like when you want to go to sleep on a warm summer day even though you hear kids playing and you know everyone is happy.

Summer Twins - Accessible girl vocals with a hint of country, a dash of dream, and a sprinkle of 60s girl group melodies. Best of all, everything about them is cute!

Obedient Wives Club - Lo-fi, Singaporean girl fronted vocals with an irresistible Phil Spector vibe.

Dash Jacket - Three piece band comprised of the nicest people you will ever meet. They wrote one of my favorite songs of all time, “Hannah,” which is a beautiful jangly indie pop gem.

ON LA:
“My favorite things about living in LA are getting brunch on Sunday mornings at L’Epicerie, going to shows at The Smell, watching Seinfeld with my roommate, Part Time Punks, seeing the beautiful variety of cultures and sub-cultures that congregate here and being close to the deserts, beaches
and mountains.”

TUNE IN NEXT WEDNESDAY - MARCH 14th to hear tunes from DJ MUKTA and find out more details about the record release show. \m/ on.

Formed in and around some of Southern California’s finest open mics, dive bars and dorm rooms, Mojo Stone is a barn-burning, sweat-pouring, old-school five-piece rock n’ roll band. Harnessing and re-contextualizing elements of folk-rock, rockabilly and soul in the service of a full-frontal rock assault, the group’s incendiary live show has entertained audiences in venues across the country.

Last summer, Mojo Stone went on their first summer U.S. tour, passing through California, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee.  The tour was a major milestone for the band.  Lots of blood and sweat went into organizing the trip on their own. They released their debut E.P., “Hatchet,” in 2011, and a second E.P., “Strange Honey,” is forthcoming.  Track attached: HONEY by MOJO STONE

Strange Honey is a big step forward for Mojo Stone as a band.  It captures that big live sound they are known for: aggressive, blatant rock n’ roll.  It’s not quiet, certainly not restrained and the psychedelic, southern roots are in it.  You hear those backwoods bluesy elements with the driving 1960’s inspired guitar and vocal work.  ”But we’re in it, too.  These are our most personal songs yet, touching on some of our darker, nastier, dreamier moods. The record is only six songs but we get completely lost in every tune we play on the album.  We hope it has the same effect on every one that listens to it.” says front woman Natalie Meadors.

ON LA: “Our favorite thing about LA is its unpredictability.  It doesn’t have a definitive sound or scene.  It accepts everything.  It’s a constant source of inspiration, providing us with as many live shows and musical experiences you get get from one city. It’s a mecca for film, theater and art—all of which stimulate musical growth in us.  Though we hope to spend a lot of time on the road in the coming years, L.A. is the perfect, creatively stimulating place to call home. Our music wouldn’t sound the same without it.”
